Dr. Shannon R. Carpenter, MD
Founder & President, The Bone Health Clinic

Shannon R. Carpenter, MD

Board-certified orthopedic surgeon who spent her career fixing fractures, then built a practice devoted to preventing them. Founder of The Bone Health Clinic in Lenexa, Kansas, the Kansas City region’s first standalone prevention-focused bone health practice, and creator of the Demand the Scan movement.

From fixing fractures to preventing them

Dr. Carpenter is a fellowship-trained shoulder and elbow surgeon whose career in the operating room, in community practice and in the care of veterans, showed her the same story on repeat: patients arriving with fractures that a decade of earlier attention could have prevented. She founded The Bone Health Clinic to change when that attention starts, pairing research-grade DXA bone density imaging with metabolic, hormonal and whole-person care. Through Demand the Scan, she urges women to ask for the bone-density conversation at 40, when their first mammogram conversation begins, rather than waiting for guidelines that start at 65.
